Money Matters

Hadley and I were out shopping yesterday when she found a purse she liked at the store. I told her we weren't buying that today, but if she wanted to use her own money we could come back the next day.

The first words out of her mouth were "I want to go shopping!" when I picked her up from school today. I explained on the way that we could go back to the store she found the purse or we could look around at others stores first to make sure that's what she wanted.

True to form, she was ready to look around. Once she found out the purse pictured below from Target was ON SALE :), she liked the idea that she could get more for her money. After walking through the toy aisle, she still really liked the purse and found two sets of bows (on sale, of course) as well. Her favorite part was that she still had money left over to keep in her purse.

Teagan's still learning, but she picked out a small Minnie Mouse doll and paid with her own money too.

We left Target to meet some friends at the mall for a playdate. Hadley insisted on visiting the Build-a-Bear Workshop to see if she could spend her last $5. (Guess that feeling of having $ in her purse didn't last long!) She quickly found that there was little to buy there (and I resisted chipping in - so hard to do- but I knew she needed the lesson). We left with empty handed, but I hope that she's starting to get that all her things don't just magically appear.

My favorite part was when we got home. Teagan really liked Hadley's new hair bows. As soon as Hadley realized this, she told Teagan she bought them for her as a present. Teagan excitedly smiled and said "Thank you, Sissy!!!"

I'll have to remind them of that moment when they're teenagers. :)
