I'm sure most of the moms out there have heard about the dangers of BPA but I didn't really understand what all the "hoopla" was until I stumbled upon a blog that mentioned that Wal-Mart is removing all BPA bottles and baby products from their shelves and Canada has banned BPA products. Apparently Babies R Us will be removing all BPA products by the end of the year.
There is no official recall, yet. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read this article. Basically, BPA is a chemical found in plastics that could be dangerous to humans, particularly infants. BPA is found in Dr.Brown and Avent bottles, which we happen to have 17 bottles in those brands.
Don't throw your bottles away though! Take them to Babies R Us and they will exchange them for Non-BPA bottles. You don't need a receipt, the bottles CAN be used but they have to have all the parts including the nipples. They will give you credit for the price of the bottles - so if you exchange them for the more expensive Born Free bottles you have to pay the difference.
I would call your store directly because I've read that it can vary from store to store. When I called the BRU 1-800 # they told me that they aren't doing any exchanges because there is no official recall. After further research I found that most BRU will exchange your bottles, it's just "unofficial".
Here is a list of Non-BPA products.
**P.S. I'm sure that some of this is all blown out of proportion. I mean, we've all been consuming this chemical for decades. However, since we have the opportunity to be "better safe than sorry", why not?
